For years, ';Joy'; by Jean Patou (introduced in 1935 at the height of the Great Depression) was advertised as the world's most expensive perfume. The advertisements said this was due to all the flowers needed to make it. It currently costs about $800.
Currently the most expensive BOTTLE of perfume is ';Imperial Majesty'; at $215,000. But this is because of the bottle, not the perfume inside. The bottle is made of Baccarat crystal, and has a five-carat diamond in its18-carat gold collar.
Without that fancy bottle, Clive Christian's signature scent, named simply ';No. 1';, costs $2,150 an ounce.
