Maybe not necessarily expensive smelling, but more like ';not cheap smelling';. Knock-offs require using much more of the scent as opposed to the ';real thing';. The scent also does not last as long. If it's a familiar scent that you recognize from the checkout line at Walmart or Family Dollar, it's probably going to nauseate you as well as everyone within smelling distance. Whatever smells common, as far as scents, is considered cheap.Are people that knowledgeable about perfumes that they can identify an expensive one?
As long as you don't smell bad... that's enough. Put deodorant after shower and little cologne, that's perfect.

It doesnt matter to all girls i suppose. i usually can tell what someone is wearing, if i like it. Some scents like CK Be and Egyptian Musk that really are my favorites!

Well, there are tons of perfumes in bath and body works and they are only like $10 for a whole bottle!! they aren't name brand but they all smell really good! some are sweet, some are lucious, some are peaceful smelling... you just have to look around and try them out to see which ones you like.

I don`t know what it is about perfumes but as a woman perfume is my luxury , i only buy expensive ones and goodness knows how many bottles i own .. cheaper perumes can smell nice too . With me is all a matter of personal preference. I always try a perfume before I buy it, as I tend to find that the smell changes once its been worn for a while. I tend to buy expensive perfume because it lasts longer when you wear it, that with cheaper ones.





As a woman, it doesn't matter to me if the aftershave worn by a man is on the cheaper side of the market, as long as it smells good on him.

I spend a lot of time in Europe and in international airports. I always like to smell the perfumes. I found though that many expensive perfumes that I am sure they spent 1000's of $$$ to develope and test I think smell awful! I was in Harrods in London and tried Christian Dior's POISON, I and everyone with me thought it smelled awful (like fermented cotten candy!) I went to the bathroom and washed it off. Different scents smell different to different people, its all about preference. Personally i love the smell of opium, i used to buy opium pour homme all the time before they discontinued it grrrrrr. My best suggestion is to go to a perfume counter and tell them what kinds of scents you like and give them your price range, most sales associates will know the scents they sell and they can help you find some options that you may like. Around Christmas i went to Macy's and i told the sales lady at the men's counter that i like more spice smells and i like a few citrus scents i have tried. I think you just like the spicy smells of the male fragrances. Antonio Benderaz (however you spell) has a spicy smelling fragrance out that isn't very expensive and I really like it. It doesn't really last very long though.

I get headaches from strong perfume so i have had a hard time trying to find one that smells good and sweet but that will not wear off like a body spray. i love chanel chance its around 拢45 per bottle i also love the new YSL elle which is 拢48 for a smallish bottle. the old calvin klein summer in the yellow %26amp; orange bottle was my all time favourite but unfortunately they have changed the smell! this was only around 拢25 per bottle! i cant get my hands on it anywhere!!

Make sure you're buying the perfume (parfum) form, and not eau de toilette or eau de parfum, which are both less concentrated. You can try layering the scent by starting with a scented body wash, applying a scented moisturizer, and then applying the perfume. Perfume adheres better to moisturized (not dry) skin, and it should never be rubbed when applied (ie on the wrists) because the friction creates heat which changes the molecular structure of the perfume. Last, apply perfume to your knees and ankles, because the scent will rise as it evaporates throughout the day. You can also spray some perfume onto your brush before brushing your hair (this can be drying to your hair though).I buy really expensive perfumes but the smell never seems to last throughout the day? First apply the body lotion of the same scent, then the perfume. Lastly, apply powder with the same scent.





This will last hours.





Freshen up with a spritz after about 4 hours.
One thing to consider is that your nose adapts to the scent of the perfumes - and while you cannot smell them, even well into the evening your perfume should be detected by those around you (Unless, of course, they are around you all day as well, in which case their noses adapt to your scent as well.)
Some say a spray to the center of yor body right out of the shower when your skin is receptive..





that works for me as well as getting unscented drtyer sheets and spryaing a couple sprays on them tossing them in the dryer as normal, it leaves my clothes with a light non offensive amount of perfume all day long.





Also you may want to remember that just because you cant smell it anymore that doesnt mean others cant...

well i think you should spray it behind your ears because that is where your closest pressure point to your chest %26amp; face is.
Personally I had the same problem and I asked the cosmetician and she suggested to purhcase the body cream along with the perfume and use it together to get longer lasting results.





First rub the body cream all over your arms and neck and then spray on the cologne you will find the fragrance lasts all day long. This I speak from experience.

It depends. Some of the more expensive ones don't always smell good to me. Like Michael Kors cologne. It's way too strong for my tastes...pungent even. On the other hand Iceberg Twice doesn't cost much at all and it smells great. You can definitely tell the difference between an expensive perfume and cheap shi+ in most cases.

You can tell the difference, cheap perfumes are overwhelming in bouquet and good quality perfumes are just down right adorable in every way. They are refreshing, stimulating and oh so lovely to the senses.

I am not the materialistic type at all, however I can smell I good perfume from a cheap perfume. I think most women can. At least the ones who are semi-cultured. Certain cheap things you can get away with (some clothes, household items, decor, cleaning products), but toiletries should be purchased based on quality. Cologne, makeup, hair products, lotions, and soaps. I mean, you can use the cheaper ones but it's the small things like that reveal good taste. Like, you can wear a $10 oufit from Target, but if you have great shoes and a handbag, you'll look like a million bucks. Or if you are going to choose cheap framed artwork for your walls, then you better have a good, strong, quality coffee table!

It depends on her personality and the occasion...I love shoes...but I don't think my b/f could pick out a pair for me for anything...maybe some slides/flops or something but not anything above and beyond that...perfumes are easy...women know what they like and what smells nice on them so if she tells you she likes a certain kind, then you are fairly safe in getting that...chocolates...I could take or leave...don't get me wrong, I love chocolate...but only if it's a nice, expensive kind (like Godiva dark chocolate truffles...mmmmmm)...but how much chocolate does a girl really want...if I'm eating a truffle, it's one or two...that's about it!...flowers are always nice...especially if you take the time to find out her favorite and get those and present them in a sweet way...good luck!

at Macy's there is Vera Wang ';Princess'; and it comes with a big purfume, a purse sized one, and body lotion and it was $60 and i got a free bag... i recommend it. and its worth every penny.
Go to a health food store and get some body oils. They smell good and are better for your skin. And since they are inexpensive you can get her several different scents.

I have a *LOT* of perfumes, I used to work for DKNY selling their perfumes and I got addicted to different scents!





I personally buy a mixture - my 2 favorite more expensive ones are Jean Paul Gaultier Pour Femme Classique, and Dior Pure Poison.


However the one I wear the most (of all things) is Brittany Spears Curious lol, I just love the smell of it :)





I have a lot of other perfumes of all makes and prices (including a lot of DKNY because it was free - but I don't like many of them!).





I think it's down to personal preference - a scent is a very personal thing and if it suits you and lasts on you and YOU like it then wear it whether the price is little or large!





The one thing to be said for the more expensive perfumes is the quality of the products used to make the scents - they tend to be more natural and less chemical based, but sometimes it's hard to tell :)

I typically buy expensive ones (Chanel, DKNY, Michael Kors,Estee Lauder, etc...) however, I'm done buying them because they don't stay with me but maybe an hour or so. And with the economy the way it is I will not be making purchases such as that- winter is coming %26amp; I'd rather be able to pay for my heat- I live in MN- it's cold! I think some of the less expensive perfumes are just as good- I will be checking into them myself.
if you like the smell and it's cheap, buy it! if you like the smell and it's expensive, consider whether the scent is worth spending a lot of money on or not. it's really about about you and your personality and what you like. all other people are gonna care about as well is the smell. they wont know whether you spent 15 dollars on it or 100.





i personally go with body sprays because the scent lasts longer and they're not as expensive. bath and body works has a pretty good line of scents that are usually around 10 or 15 dollars.



I'll buy perfume if I like it.





If it's cheap like from Avon, or from stores like River Island and Victoria Secret.





I'll even buy the authentic ones like I just purchased 'Gucci' by Gucci.





I say if you're not willing to spend on the authentic stuff, go and get the cheaper home brands they have at stores until you save up for them.





The cheap fake bottles of the authentic brands, thing like.. ''Wings' for Angel, or 'Speed' for Gucci Rush, have bad chemicals i them, and irritate your skin alot more than the authentic ones would. so for your own health, I recommend saving up :)
It really depends I've come across all types of perfumes I like over the past few years. I really love Lolita Lempika which is about $63 for 1.7 oz or $84 for about 3 oz or so. I also like Burberry Brit, it's actutally a bit cheaper than Lolita.Guess for woman is amazing too! For something less pricey I've found I love Black Amethyst from Bath and Body Works (has to be the fragrance though, not the body spray), and it costs about $27. I was also surprised by Hilary Duff's With Love...smells really good and isn't costly!
i wear perfume by Nanette Lapore, which kinda pricey but i love the smell. i have had inexpensive perfumes i loved the smell of ,but i like to change after a while. its just coincidence my new favorite smell is in the 80 $ range. ';Shanghai Butterfly';smells sweet and exotic. Im personally not a fan of the flowery sugar smell almost all perfume brands are producing.
Well the only scent I wear is the new version of Chance by Chanel. It's almost $100 for the small bottle but I don't care because it smells expensive and the bottle is really nice AND, the best part, the smell lasts all day. You get what you pay for. But I like cheap stuff too, I used to wear Paris Hilton.

(Be sure to ask for the Mademoiselle line).. it's a shade of pink, in a clear bottle with a white top. 9/10 times I wear it, someone asks what perfume I have on. A colleague of mine at work has also bought it after she asked me what I had on, and I've found myself asking her after what smells so good! :)

It takes a lot to make a perfume. Maybe the proces of production is not so expensive but research that is done before it is put into the production is really costly. And are they really so expensive? Look, a good perfume can be used for a long time as you should apply only a little bit of it. So when you look at how long you can use a bottle it does not look that bad.

wash it as normal and if that doesn't work, leave it in bright sunlight- this is also great for getting curry stains out.
If it was an expensive shirt, then I'd take it to the dry cleaners and not try to fix the problem myself.

I can't tell if a guy is wearing cheap or expensive cologne. It doesn't really matter to me as long as it smells good. I like a softer scent though. Not those really potent fragrances that leave the whole room smelling like Old Spice. For example, I would prefer my date to wear Armani Black Code as oppossed to Mangradore; a concoction with way too many spices that's not at all appeling to my scents.Girls, can you tell when a guy is wearing cheap/expensive perfume?

Funny thing about perfumes is that they work with your individual body chemistry, so no one smells exactly the same anyway. Try out different ones by putting them at your pulsepoints, wrist or the crook of your arm, wait about 10 min and see how it smells then. Doesnt have to be the expensive kind to smell Damn good..it all depends on you! I have been surprised before after asking what kind a guy is wearing and it is a cheaper brand..was sexy as hell on him though ;)
Hell no they don't smell the same..You can definitely tell the difference between the two. Cheap perfume has a loud funny smell and expensive perfume has a lighter sweeter smell to it..But you have to be on the look out because some expensive perfume can have a cheap smell..
Some expensive perfumes can be worse than the cheaper ones...

I usually go with Amazon with everything I buy. They usually always have the lowest prices because they have so many vendors. The lowest price I found on there was $28. Link is below.

Absolutely. We have a rule in our family- if you don't like something, you can take it back and the giver will not be offended. We want the receiver to like or have use for the gift.Would you return a Christmas present if it offended you? eg. expensive perfume tested on animals, fur ornament?
I have no idea what a fur ornament is. But it seems like this topic deals with fur so yeah i'd say i'd return the item. I think if someone gives you an item that offends you you should talk to them and let them know that the reason your returning the item is because it's offending you, and that way they will understand that items like that will offend you.





Even if you've told them such items like that offend you before and they are doing it again, it doesn't hurt to tell them how you feel. It's better to be honest about it, than to let it eat away at you on the inside. And if they are offended by the fact that your returning the item, let them know that keeping the item it more offending to you because of what it is.





I don't recommend doing the secret exchange thing, because people tend to want to see you with the item they've given you. Lying about it will only hurt their feelings, so just tell them about it and return it. Not to the person who gave it to me, NO. But for that, all Vegans and Vegetarians should ask for gift cards, or at least specify what you would like to receive for Christmas. I would simply put it on ebay and buy myself something that I liked. If they asked, then I would remind them, well you do know I am Vegan or Vegetarian or even ethical , whatever. I did not want to offend you by selling it, but I just do not believe in that.





But let me tell you something. I have no problem with Vegans and Veggies, only that you cannot expect everyone to also accept your ways and beliefs, because everyone is entitled to their own as well.

I'm well known as a well read intellectual in my family but my father and his wife had the audacity to give me and my non-practicing Catholic wife a $50 leather bound King James Bible for Xmas one year. Talk about clueless and insulting. I finally sold it on eBay and did mention it to my father.
Nope...if it were something I were allergic to ( like peanuts) I'd give it tp someone else ....maybe. otherwise...I'd not return it. The only time I could do that would be with an item of clothing that didn't fit, then in THAT situation I'd try to exchange it only.
absolutely. what would be the point of keeping it? with the economy the way it is, don't take anything for granted. if its not something you are not going to use, return it and get something you will enjoy. there's no shame in that.

Well I would try to do it as diplomatic as I could and maybe accept it in the first instant not to embarrassing the person, but later tell her that I would not sue the gift and could I exchange it for something else .
No I wouldn't.......if the item has offended you in some way give it to a charity shop, or put it on ebay and donate the money to a good cause!:o)

Agree with the last poster. They are expensive, because they are branded, and just as everything else from Channel, Gucci, Lacoste etc' is expensive, perfumes, are of course expensive too. I feel a lot of times, that certain brands, that first started as only perfume designers and now moved in to clothing fashion, only create clothes, with their logos on them to basically promote their perfumes, the clothing looks a lot like a promotional item for their perfume brand, not the opposite.
mostly from flowers and other extracts of well scents. the making that goes into them and stuff creates a normal economic system and because the sellers know consumers want it and will buy it at w/e price, that's the price they'll sell it for....it's all economics!
Perfumes are expensive because you are paying for the brand, not the actual contents. You are mostly paying for the name Chanel or Gucci!
