Basically essences of mostly plant (and a few animal) sources are combined by specially trained connoisseurs. There are high notes, mid notes and low notes. They are expensive because both the essences are expensive and there are few of those connoisseurs in the world. They can only perform the duty for a few number of years before they are unable to anymore. It is very tolling on the nose.What is perfume made of and what makes it so expensive ?
